Wiksten Made: My Spring Inspiration, in Pictures

Brooklyn-based Jenny Gordy spends most of her time designing the adorable, knit-heavy collectionWiksten, but in her spare moments she also authors an equally impressive blog,wikstenmade.blogspot.com. This week, she's sharing loads of chic DIY projects and cool retro-ish finds on Lucky Right Now.

Check out what I'm into for spring--the colors, fabrics, shapes, and retro fashions--and the inspirations for my new collection.

My current obsessions: The color blue, striped sailorshirts, dresses with defined waistlines and gathered skirts,hand-knitted accessories, fiber-based jewelry, Japanese geometricprints and embroidery, subtle tie-dye, and fabric bags with leatherhandles.

What really motivates me to start working is mycollection of images (above). As I'm surfing the web I drag images thatinspire me into a folder on my desktop. I usually pick out things thatrelate to the colors and shapes I've already decided on. More oftenthan not a theme develops and I start to get excited.

My design process isn't about fantasy or creating a story. It's moreabout being practical and coming up with really wearable clothing. It begins with choosing fabrics that Ilike. Then I get a general idea of the shapes I want to use (based onwhat I need in my own wardrobe), and I do some quick sketches when themood strikes--using the above inspiration images to keep me drawing.
