Wiksten Made: Valentine's Day D.I.Y. Heart Garland
Brooklyn-based Jenny Gordy spends most of her time designing the adorable, knit-heavy collectionWiksten, but in her spare moments she also authors an equally impressive blog,wikstenmade.blogspot.com. This week, she's sharing loads of chic DIY projects and cool retro-ish finds on Lucky Right Now.
This simple heart garland is perfect for those who can't stand frothy, frilly Valentine's Day decorations but still want their place to be festive. And it's incredibly easy to make!
Here's what you'll need :
- 5 different colors of craft felt, which can be purchased at any craft or sewing store
- a fine tip Sharpie
- scissors
- thread
- a sewing machine
Step one: Print out the black heart shape pictured below and cut it out with scissors.

Step two: Place the paper heart on top of your felt and trace around it with the Sharpie. You will need to trace around 12 to 20 hearts in each color, depending on how long you want your garland. I did 12 each to decorate my air conditioner, but you'll need more to decorate a mantel.

Step three: Cut out each felt heart, being careful to stay just inside the black line.
Step four: Starting at the top of the heart, sew a line straight down the center. Keep adding hearts and sewing in one long string, picking colors randomly.

And you're done!
