Postcard From Milan: Dolce & Gabbana
Whileit hasn't exactly been a back-to-basics fashion show season, there seems to be an emphasis on craftsmanship, quality, and designersreconnecting with the spirit of the clothes that originally put them on the map. And this was exactly the case at Dolce& Gabbana.

The show opened with a video of the designers and their seamstresses and atelier workers sketching, draping, andstitching the clothes that were about to come down the runway.
Thefirst look, one of Dolce's famously tailored black blazers paired withonly lace briefs and elegant satin pumps, set the tone for a show wherethe focus was on the simple, timeless luxury and tasteful, powerfulsexiness that has made the duo such fashion rock stars.

What followedwere more impeccable black jackets (in fact, 72 of them made up thefinale); Italian-lady knit suits; fitted, knee-grazing dresses; jeweltone, drapey velvet or lace-trimmed satin dresses; anot-the-least-bit-kooky mix of polka dots and leopard print; a few ultra-richflorals; and plenty of expensive-looking, to-die-for lingerie peekingout from under everything.

Like the Marc Jacobs show two weeks ago in New York, it was a truly moving fashion moment, and many in the usually blasefashion crowd were misty-eyed by the end.
