Postcard From Paris: Chanel
The deep freeze started last night at the YSL show held in the Grand Palais, the same venue that hosted this morning's Chanel extravaganza. The chilled-to-the-bone audience attributed the sub-zero temperature to the weather outside and to the not-at-all insulated beaux arts building. However, upon taking our seats at Chanel, we learned that the meat locker conditions were attributable to the iceberg (in another part of the building and unseen last night) that needed to be maintained as the centerpiece for what was about to be Karl Lagerfeld's arctic expedition.

The enormous glacial formation in the middle of the Chanel set was allegedly shipped from Sweden and, in fact, is reportedly being returned there now that the show is over. The charcoal drawing of a polar bear on the invitation was the leading indicator that Lagerfeld was thinking about some kind of northern exposure.

The show opened with both male and female models in fur explorer suits (we've heard that the considerable amount of fur throughout the show was all faux).

From there, classic Chanel tweeds, leather jackets and bags took on even more fur.

There were also full-on Chewbacca-esque fur pants, shorts, skirts and boots, in addition to stalagmite-resembling fringed knits, icicle necklaces and cuffs, white mohair dresses with blue ombre clouds and pure white ice princess ensembles.

It was hard not to be distracted trying to imagine the logistics of moving an iceberg to Paris, so we're going to have to wait until our re-see appointment later this week to let you in on even more details.
