Postcard From Paris: Valentino
Valentino has always been the epitome of chic, but not necessarily ago-to label unless you were walking a Hollywood red carpet or were a"woman of a certain age." With Valentino himself retired from thehouse, and his two former proteges, Pier Paolo Piccioli and Maria GraziaChiuri, installed as co-head designers, the brand, excitingly, hastaken a turn for the young.
To be sure, the clothes are still veryfancy and very ruffly, but the embellishments have a fun, modernedge--lace is patchworked, leather jackets are cropped and fitted,ruffles are molded and structured, and, for the most part, dress andskirt lengths are short. All of the editors were crazy for the shoes--blush-colored heels or flats with studded t-straps.
