The New Cupcake
Cupcakes are kind of the cosmopolitan of the dessert world--they say "girly" in a very several-years-ago way. The trouble is, they're delicious and much less-replaceable than a cosmopolitan. People have tried with mini-cupcakes, but the icing-to-cake ratio is off, and they're even girlier than an actual cupcake. But now I'm here to tell you that the new cupcake is . . . the ball.
Jen Ford brought around these doughnut-hole-like items last night--made of red-velvet cake, enrobed in icing (not sticky) and coconut--and all who tasted them, including me, went insane. Though somewhat unfortunately named Sweet Jewels, they are better than anything and lower-calorie/commitment than the fluffy-girly cupcake.
