3 Great Tips From Our Live Editor Chats With Elise Loehnen and Jenny Kang

1. C hesley Tolentino: I just arrived in NYC from California, and clearly the style here is very different. What are some key pieces you think I should buy that can easily transform my laid-back California look into something NYC appropriate?
Elise Loehnen:Welcome to New York!Get ready to layer! Girls here seem to favor a more architectural or interesting cut, so I would get a sharp-shouldered blazer that you can wear out at night (when it's cool enough), that might also be cropped (that style looks great over super-feminine dresses). Also, New Yorkers walk, so sensible but cute flats are absolutely key and worth investing in.Accessorizing is important (again, part of the layering process)--you rarely see girls here in a one single centerpiece-more often than not, it's an interplay of texture and color, with lots of rings or bangles or necklaces. Or even just a belt!
2. Kristen DiVincenti: I have a large bust and small frame. I like the 'shirt tucked into skirt' look, but it always makes me look top heavy and larger than I am. Any ways around that or should I abandon the look all together?
Elise Loehnen:It sounds like you're picking tanks that aren't overly form-fitting (this is understandable). I tend to get around this by wearing two shirts --an open button-down, usually white or chambray or occasionally black, and a tank. Both should be tucked in. I usually button only the bottom few buttons of the oxford before tucking. And a belt can be essential for holding all the different layers together. Cuffing the sleeves on the button-down is also totally key. It'll make it look cool and slouchy (and the fact that there are two shirts justifies the extra volume visually--I always think it's flattering).
3. Mythboutique:What's your fave trend for this summer?
Jenny Kang:Definitely California surf-inspired--think neon, tie-dye, and piled-up mixed bracelets!
