What do you actually wear to work?

I had an extended conversation with a friend this weekend about what's legitimate office-appropriate. Obviously, here at Lucky we can pull off some looks that would be arguably outlandish elsewhere (rompers, head-to-toe denim, shorts), but my friend intimated that even color is a big no-no in some work places. She favors a dark suit and a straightforward blouse (she works in corporate communications for a politician), since anything too flamboyant would stick out sorely against the super-corporate attire she's up against. And she even steers clear of jewelry. This, coming from a girl who loves Balenciaga, made me take note. What can you all pull off at the office? What are your tricks for feeling like yourself, within some pretty strict parameters?
