Know What's the Best Thing Ever? When Moments of Desperation Yield Brilliant Purchases

We paired up with eBay to host two Lookbook events in New York and Los Angeles over the past two weeks: Racks and racks of awesome eBay finds were rolled onto the sidewalks and people passing by were invited in to style themselves from the offerings (knee-high Christian Louboutin boots, a suede parka, and a leopard trench were particularly popular)--with input from me, celebrity stylist Annabel Tollman, and reality star Whitney Port--and get their photo taken by Michael Waring. Meanwhile, in conjunction with the events, people from all over the world are posting photos of their personal style to the Lookbook, in order to enter to win a $5,000 shopping spree (so, ahem, get posting!). Anyway, it was all in good fun, except for about an hour at L.A.'s event on Wednesday, when it was so mind-blowingly hot, I actually went sprinting through The Grove looking for a more summery outfit.

See, I figured that late September in Los Angeles would absolutely justify jeans and a silky Nieves Lavi tunic, which I incidentally wear all the time, even though I figured it would be a special occasion piece considering it's cut from a green cheetah-print pattern and all (it looks a bit like this one, but the style is different). But it was about 90 degrees, and we were standing in the direct sunlight, so on a 10-minute break, I managed to land a new outfit, which I've more or less been wearing since.

Sara Millionaire's Fall Favorite: Isabel Marant

A style afficionado with a penchant for runway fashion and rock and roll, 25-year-old Sara Millionaire showcases her edgy-chic taste on her blog, wr2bam.com (which stands for Waitin' Round 2 Be A Millionaire, just in case you didn't catch that). This week, she's sharing all her greatest tips with us on Lucky Right Now, from must-have staples for rockers to the pop culture icons who most influence her look.

One of my favorite fall 2010 collections isIsabel Marant's--the clothes are fresh and unexpected and at her show kind of look like they'd all been randomly pulled from some extremely cool girl's closet and just flung on the models. I like that kind of laid-back spirit. What really jumps out at me about her pieces are how their party-readytextures, like shaggy fur and luxe sequins, feel surprisinglycasual and daytime when mixed with tough black leatherand basic heather gray jersey. I can't even begin to hope to afford anything from the actual collection, so I've been all over the Internet hunting forpieces witha similar vibe.

Lush "Hairdresser's Husband": Perfume You Can Drink

Lush is launching 10 (!) new amazing perfumes nationwide next week, kicking off with a touring gallery installation in New York. Ten different rooms are meticulously decorated to tell the imaginative stories behind each scent. My favorite is inspired by (and named for) the movie The Hairdresser's Husband, in which a young boy obsesses over the pretty women that cut his hair, then eventually grows up to marry one of them. During a pivotal scene the volatile couple argue in the salon and then, desperate for a cocktail, resort to guzzling cologne--resulting, naturally, in a wild tryst on the salon floor (it's a French film, after all).Read More
