Why the Color Purple Makes Me Think of Saved by the Bell

You know how when you're a kid, you plan those games borrowed from morning television? When we played Saved by the Bell, I was Jessie (meaning, unfortunately, Zach Morris wasn't my boyfriend, which was all I cared about). When we played Rainbow Bright, I was the girl with purple hair and glasses (whose name was Shy Violet, or IQ). Maybe this says something about the fact that my friends thought I was a nerd, but anyway-- doesn't it seem like purple has always played second fiddle to in-your-face pink in the landscape of feminine colors?

Whether or not this blog post is some sort of weird therapy session for me to resolve my color issues, the point is that I've added yet another purple cosmetic into my beauty arsenal--L'Oreal's new Majestic Mauve eyeshadow quad. It's a perfect array of deep, dusty, and pearlescent purples, and it's part of their Color of Hope Collection, a yearly line of shadows, lipsticks, etc. (available at Walgreen's, CVS, and Wal-Mart) that raises money for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. So you'll be supporting a worthy cause--and Shy Violets everywhere.
