Lush "Hairdresser's Husband": Perfume You Can Drink

Lush is launching 10 (!) new amazing perfumes nationwide next week, kicking off with a touring gallery installation in New York. Ten different rooms are meticulously decorated to tell the imaginative stories behind each scent. My favorite is inspired by (and named for) the movie The Hairdresser's Husband, in which a young boy obsesses over the pretty women that cut his hair, then eventually grows up to marry one of them. During a pivotal scene the volatile couple argue in the salon and then, desperate for a cocktail, resort to guzzling cologne--resulting, naturally, in a wild tryst on the salon floor (it's a French film, after all).

The perfumers collaborated with a molecular mixologist to make a fragrance that's actually drinkable; in the gallery, little glass vials of it were waiting for us on a wooden bar, chilling in a bucket of ice.Taking a sip, you taste hints of lemon, orange oil, vanilla ... and just a touch of sharpness that makes you think, "What am I doing? I'm DRINKING perfume!?" but once you realize nothing bad is going to happen, you can't resist trying a little more ...

You can get this particular scentonlyat the touring gallery (which next hits Tokyo in December and Russia in February--click here for a schedule). Hint to perfumers: Isn't this kind of a good idea?
