Santa Barbara-based Kendall Conrad designs bags--including alligator-skin envelope clutches and cross-body leather messenger bagsthat are impeccably made and forever chic--a feat, according to Conrad, that is informed by constant, careful shopping. "I get inspired by the things that I buy: books, textiles, and especially art," explains Conrad, who opened her first boutique last summer in Venice (1121 Abbot Kinney Blvd., 310-399-1333). Here's a rundown of Conrad's Santa Barbara must-stops.

"I draw a lot of inspiration from horseback riding and saddlery, and Jedlicka'sis my go-to spot for riding clothes and gear.

I always find my favorite labels--like Isabel Marant and Vanessa Bruno--at Diani.

I like to support small, independent bookstores, and Tecolote Book Shop (1470 E. Valley Rd., 805-969-4977) in Montecito has a great selection of coffee-table books, current fiction, kids books, and cookbooks.

I stop into Maison Konce a week to snatch up unusual things (I just bought a fun Mongolian throw) including pillows and rugs from all over the world and delicate tabletop pieces. Upstairs At Pierre Lafondis great for last-minute gifts and the most inventive gift wrapping.

When I need to wind down, I always call Dani at Zen Diva Spa. She comes to my house, does organic manicures and pedicures (I don't like to breathe all those chemicals!), and her massages are out of this world.

My favorite place to go after a day of shopping is Tydes,at The Coral Casino. It makes me feel like I am on a yacht at sea."
