My Top 5: Winter Staples : Lucky Magazine

'Tis the season for a marathon of holiday dinners and events, so I'm shopping for versatile winter pieces that'll take me straight from work to a few hot toddies. And while these picks may not be festive in the traditional "I'm a walking disco ball" way, they're still eye-catchingly cool (and warm!).

1. Dress: I love how this gives almost complete coverage (except for the slightly open back) but still comes off as oh-so-sexy. Don't worry about what necklace to wear or pairing it with the right jacket--all it needs is a pair of black tights.

2. Oxford shoes: After a long (and rather uncomfortable) stint of wearing heels with a 4-inch minimum, I'm reverting back to flats this season. This pair is refreshingly simple but still looks super-luxe.

3. Clutch: Happy holidays to me! My new Reece Hudson clutch is lightweight, the perfect size, and has impossibly cool horizontal stitching--I never leave home without it.

4. Coat: I've been frustrated that it's too cold to wear my army jackets, so I was happy to find such a great (and warm) alternative in the same color family.

5. Blouse: You can never have enough crisp white blouses. I wear one almost every day and just rotate the bottom half between shorts, leather skirts, and wool pants. At work, I'd pair this with trousers, and then change into velvet shorts (that I handily scrunched into my bag before leaving home) for a party.
