...before you feel compelled to do something about them? Though I'm a hugeproponent of the grungy dark-root look, I'm not sure how far I should take thisconcept. Right now my roots are almost an inch long, and I'm kind ofdigging it.

Yesterday I took a whirlwind day trip up to Canada to check out Aritzia's Spring 2011 Collection. Technically a whirlwind afternoon trip after a three-hour de-icing of the PJ (what us editors came to affectionately call the private wings Aritzia had organized for the excursion).
The 26-year-old Vancouver, BC-based chain has quietly opened a handful of stores here in the U.S. over the last three years--including in my hometown of Seattle, which I frequent on trips home--and come May a gigantic flagship in the two-story former Gap space in Soho on the corner of Broadway and Spring will mark its official U.S. presence. But you won't have to wait three months to start shopping--a pop-up shop on the third floor opens this Saturday, February 5.
Yes, they carry de rigueur hipster labels like See by Chloé, Acne and Marc by Marc Jacobs--but the real reason to visit is for Aritzia's eight in-house labels. If eight sounds like a lot, the weekend casual knits, cool tailoring and romantic dresses and skirts all mix and match rather effortlessly in a Frenchie-chic way (cue the sound of friends asking, "where'd you get that??"), and at Club Monaco-like prices: jackets from one of the lines, Le Fou, are under $300; wear-with-everything silk tanks under $90.
Here are my favorite looks from last night to put on your shopping list:
The look at Nina Ricci's spring runway show seemed to break all sorts of makeup taboos: Don't wear pink around your eyes or it will make you look consumptive or rabbity; don't bleach your eyebrows or you'll look like an alien head. Yet the models at the show actually looked kind of... well, gorgeous.

We dedicated an entire item in the January issue to the color palette of a dress from Prada's SS 2011 show (see the slideshow here). Now you must watch the video campaign that accompanied the collection (bonus: watch the making of the video here). Then tell me you didn't watch it five times in a row like I did. Who knew models could move like that? Read More
Every month when I sit down to write my grandfather a letter I'm reminded of the joy in slowing down and doing things longhand. And while I don't plan on retiring my desktop and smartphone any time soon, taking the time to write things out on pretty paper is always going to be more special--and fun! Here is the batch of beautifully crafted, old-school paper goods that has inspired me to unclench my mouse and pick up a pen again.
To be fair, Amy Adams is so ebullient and effervescent, that I'd probably think she looks amazing in a muumuu with a perm. But the Herve Leroux gown she wore last night at the SAGs fit her like a glove--like the most flattering glove ever. Also, I think that pale people sometimes shy away from wearing white, but she demonstrated how to pull it off perfectly, with her red hair in a sophisticated pony, and gorgeous, glowing skin...
With lots of blush. Makeup artist Molly Stern mixed three different shades: Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush in #2, L'Oreal Paris Feel Naturale Blush in Charmed Peach, and Lancome Butterflies Fever Blush in Glowy Ballerine. Love.

You know that horrific point in late January when you've been bundled up for so long that you can't imagine ever wearing a swimsuit again? Yet, weirdly, it's actually the time of year when you should think about baring your skin. Here, three things to address right now to make life easier all spring to summer:
