My Top Five: 2011 Style

Online fashion editor Christina Anderson accused me of dressing like a schoolboy. A less man-repelling, sexier me in 2011? Challenge accepted. Here's what I'm working with:

1. Burberry ruched jersey dress, $595, net-a-porter.com. Rather than diving right into the uber-fitted, body-con dress, I'll start with this style that I've had my eyes on. It's quite tight, but the ruching gives you a bit more leeway.

2. Proenza Schouler skirt, $345, openingceremony.com. A pencil mini to replace my long grandma skirts! I love the shock of teal tweed mixed in there.

3. ASOS leather pants, $206.88, us.asos.com. Sexy skinny leather pants--yes, please! To Christina's dismay, I just don't think I'm capable of pairing it with a sexy top. Baby steps. I'll go with an oversize sweater layered over a Peter Pan collar.

4. Mulberry "Trippy Tiger Square" printed scarf, $328.35, my-wardrobe.com. I've never been much of an animal-print person, but lately I've been liking it on other people. Whenever I want to dabble in something, I start with an unobtrusive accessory that can be removed at any time, like a scarf.

5. Mechante of London "Kitty" whipsnake cage sandals, $288.74, theoutnet.com. This new look requires a stiletto heel. Mechante of London makes a whole slew of them that have become instant favorites of mine. They look great with a slim cuffed trouser. And when you wear them the first time, don't make the mistake of running down the stairs to try to make it to a press dinner in time ... just saying.

How are you planning to amp up your personal style this year?
