Packing Light: 21 Days of Resolutions

Today is my last day of making new resolutions, but (fingers crossed!) not of keeping them! Have you been keeping your promises of self improvement in 2011? Let me know and I'll be sure to keep you posted on my own progress! Thanks for reading and good luck!

Day 21

Packing for any type of trip--regardless of length--has always been an agonizing process for me. Terrified that I might be without the perfect eyeshadow or shoes for a given occasion, I always overpack to the extreme--only to end up wearing the same pair of jeans my entire stay. This year I am putting an end to unnecessaryschlepping ofluggage by whittling my packing routine down to the essentials. Here is the (much lighter!) load you will spot me toting next time I travel:

1. Tool Jacquard Weekender, $198, pendleton-usa.com. Not only do I love the rich mix of weathered leather and heavy fabric on this retro-looking bag, but it is the perfect size for a carry-on.

2. Current/Elliott The Cropped Skinny, $213,revolveclothing.com. A slightly cropped skinny jean is the ideal silhouette for travel. The material allows you to wear it a few times without washing and the length works with any type of shoe.

3. Cole Haan Raleigh Whipstitch Small Cross-Body, $298, endless.com. A long strapped satchel frees up my hands during excursions, yet allows enough space to carry my camera, wallet and phone. This one had such a world traveler feel to it--like it was handcrafted by European artisans.

4. Favorite Colors Shawl, $89.99, modcloth.com. You really can't go wrong by packing an oversize shawl on your trip. Elegantly draped fabric will add interest to a limited wardrobe and it can also double as a travel blanket when flying!

5. Burt's Bee Lip Shimmer, $4.99, drugstore.com. Lugging a lot of makeup around on a trip can be cumbersome so I want to keep everything as compact and efficient as possible. This little powerhouse of a lip gloss is tiny, super-moisturizing and delivers a lasting glossy color to my lips.

What are your travel must-haves? How do you keep from over-packing?
