What's the Best Beauty Tip You've Learned from a Friend?

One of the things I loved about living in all-girls residence halls in college was an evening of fun beauty boot-camp: Almost everyone there knew more about hair and makeup than I did, and they were more than willing to get all Steel Magnolias and share the wealth. So even though I now spend my days interviewing the biggest names in the beauty business, secretly, I still love nothing better than a beauty tip from an old friend.

Some I've picked up along the way:

Per my friend Robin: If you want to wear lipstick but are afraid it will look too strong on you, put on gloss first, then lipstick on top. It makes your lips look fuller, and the color will disperse easily without a harsh line.

Per Kathleen: If you want to make your hair look fuller, get highlights. (Try L'Oreal's Feria Multi-Faceted Shimmering Highlighting Kit--it's easy and fun, and the L'Oreal website offers all sorts of helpful highlighting advice.)

Per Ana: If you didn't get a good night's sleep, don't go for the full makeup treatment. Instead, stick to concealer (just enough to make your skin look fresh and even) and a minimal amount of eye makeup--mascara and a tiny bit of eyeliner smudged into your upper lashline. You'll automatically look more wide-awake.
