L.A.'s New It Interior Designer Hillary Thomas Shares Her Fab Yet Frugal Home Finds

Hillary Thomas' trademark style is a blend of vintage Palm Beach posh (bamboo sconces and Chippendale chairs) and unexpected modern glamour (Lucite tables, graphic-print pillows). It's a fresh, cheery high-low aesthetic that's undeniably compelling (a sale Thomas recently hosted on onekingslane.com hawking her own handpicked vintage finds sold out within hours).

Chic Shop, her recently opened store in Brentwood (11973 San Vicente Blvd., Ste. 101, 310-472-2206, chicshopla.com), features wallet-friendly home decor, including needlepoint brick covers, Asian-inspired lamp finials and custom bedding. Considering Thomas' sharp eye and bargain-hunting prowess, we asked her to share her favorite cheap, chic, local shopping sources. Here is the scoop:

What are your most trusty spots in L.A. for well-priced home decor? "I always love hunting at Wertz Brothers(11879 Santa Monica Blvd., 310-477-4251). The prices are dirt cheap, and you can find everything from cool dining tables and chairs to sideboards and coffee tables. Rubbish Interiors (1627 Silver Lake Blvd., 323-661-5575, rubbishinteriors.com) in Silver Lake houses a trove of amazing vintage furniture and lighting. CB2 (cb2.com) has the best Lucite tables, and Kier Design (15260 Antioch St., 310-459-0980, kierdesign.com) in the Pacific Palisades stocks great vintage lamps and unexpected accessories. My favorite spot is the Rose Bowl Flea Market. I never leave empty-handed!"

Where do you shop online? "I swear by swanklighting.com for fab Murano glass lamps, and my new favorite site for fantastic vintage-chic items is piecesinc.com."

What blogs do you read for inspiration? "I voraciously read peakofchic.com, stylebeat.blogspot.com, houseofturquoise.com, cococozy.com and elementsofstyleblog.com."

What projects are you currently working on? "I'm designing an incredible house in the Bahamas in a private club called Baker's Bay (bakersbayclub.com). It's going to be out of this world. I also just had the most amazing shopping adventure on Dixie Highway, in Palm Beach, buying vintage home furnishings for my upcoming One Kings Lane container sale (onekingslane.com). I found so many unique treasures that I am going to reupholster, refurbish and breathe new life into for the sale. Expect lots of yellows, greens, pinks and turquoise--all my favorite colors! There's no set sale date yet, but be on the lookout for it!"
