She has championed young American designers (Jason Wu at the Inaugural Ball was a serious moment) and is a master of mixing high and low (her J.Crew looks prompt something close to mass hysteria--they sell out within hours). Her recent European tour with the President is a veritable style guide of how to dress appropriately for any major occasion--whether it's meeting the queen in a black Ralph Lauren gown or speaking at Oxford University in an Alexander McQueen white top and waist-cinching belt.
