It's All About … Contrasting Prints and Clashing Colors

Remember the freedom of getting dressed when you were a kid? Like, it didn’t matter if you were wearing red pleated pants with your brother’s Aerosmith T-shirt, all topped off with a plaid cape and animal socks? It’s time to revisit those days, as nothing is more right now than mixing and matching prints and colors. Take a cue from print-on-print experts at J.Crew (the fall collection has us ready to throw caution to the wind) and designers like Erdem and Marni, who mixed shocking hues and patterns that previously would’ve been big, fat no-no’s. Oh, how the times have changed: Florals and houndstooth? Bring it on. Neon pink and blood red? Yes, please. Not ready for a kaleidoscope of color? Take these baby steps: cinch your neutral cardigan with a skinny neon belt or wear a brightly colored friendship bracelet for just a hint of clash.
