Should You Wear Makeup to the Beach? (and other pressing summer style questions)
Can I wear makeup to the beach?
We recommend lots of sunscreen, a hat and big sunglasses – a cool, timeless look that obviates the need for any makeup. But if you must wear makeup to the beach, stick to waterproof mascara and tinted SPF moisturizer, advises Hollywood makeup artist (and Santa Monica Beach resident) Amy Holiber. “A little bit of lip gloss or lip tint can look really pretty, too,” she adds. “Anything other than that and you’re getting into a dangerous area.”

I’m having lunch at a sunny outdoor café. Is there a way to top up the sunscreen I applied before work without undoing my makeup?
Many sunscreens do lose their potency within a few hours, so it’s smart to reapply before you go al fresco. Our favorite trick is to freshen up with a little bit of translucent mineral powder like Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil. It’s super-sheer (i.e., you won’t look cakey or shiny) and offers some natural sun protection. It’s a great little pick-me-up.

What’s a great, easy makeup look for a summer date night?
The whole sun-kissed look with a rosy cheek translates perfectly for evening. To punch it up, just add a light smoky eye in a soft, sheer gray or pretty bronze. Smudge the shadow around your lash line and finish the look with some nude-pink lip-gloss. It’s a gorgeous effect that says “I made an effort” – without much effort at all.
