MFW Spring 2012: Gucci Goes Glam
Gucci is gearing up to celebrate its 90th birthday and for the the Spring 2012 collection, designer Frida Giannini stuck to the heritage brand's roots. Model Joan Smalls opened the show with a nod to the Gucci woman—strong, sexy and confident in a boxy jacket with tuxedo pants, hair swept back and smoky eyes.
There was no doubt that this was a Gucci show: the looks alternated between masculine suits and fringed dresses, all of which will appear on red carpets. The color palette was poison green, black and gold. And many of the pieces had graphic colorblocking details.
The house is known for best-selling accessories and Giannini didn't disappoint. The shoes (peep toe heels), the bags (small box frame bags and large slouchy hobos) and the oversize sunglasses are sure to fly off the shelves. Our favorite look was the black and gold fringed dress—we can picture it on Diane Kruger already.
