NYFW Spring 2012: Anna Sui Was Suh-Weet!

It was like the set of a black and white starlet filled movie (it made perfect sense that Sofia Coppola sat front row)—only this show was in color and these starlets were made of model proportions. There was a little bit of roaring '20s, some '30s-esque old-Hollywood glamour and a few feminine '40s silhouettes. John Jannuzzi and I were trying to pinpoint which decade she was aiming for and we decided upon an average of the three. It's not quite how it works and we're both bad at math, but it somehow makes sense here. The best of these decades were represented in a vaguely patriotic way. While models waited to walk, a light projected stars and stripes on them. Headpieces were punctuated with some chic summer pieces we'd really want to wear—like printed blouses and tight knee-length skirts.

You can always count on this show being a good time and setting a very specific mood; in this case a trip back to a few chic moments in American history. Anna represents serious fashion but doesn't take herself too seriously. We like that.
