NYFW Spring 2012: Reece Hudson

I stopped by the Reece Hudson presentation on Sunday night and got to chat up the Reeces behind the pieces (all made right here in New York), the lovely Reece Solomon. (Common misconception: Hudson is her little brother's name; not her last name!) When I told her I wanted them all: "You can't have them all unless you're Reece!" Her partner, Max Stein, joked. This is true, but it's going to be way hard to decide on just one.

And then I grilled her for a little:

What inspires you when you’re designing? Any specific music or art?

I’m inspired by '70s photography. As far as music goes, there is not one album in particular, but I always need music while designing. I'm partial to Radiohead.

There's a lot of new additions to this collection! Tell me about them!

I’m excited to be working with fabrics in addition to skins for the first time. And to experiment with new embroidery techniques and applications.

Tell me about this video that was playing throughout the presentation.

It was directed and produced by Harry McNally, based on his creative vision and interpretation of the collection. Harry is also a musician and it was amazing that he was able to create an original score for the video.

What's coming up next for you guys?

We're moving into the CFDA Fashion Incubator in May 2012.

Which show are you most excited to see?

Proenza Schouler in New York. And in Europe: Rick Owens, Anthony Vaccarello, Mary Katrantzou and Givenchy.

What is your fall shopping strategy?

To focus on staples such as boots and coats.

What's your favorite part about fashion week?
