Lucky Haul: The Holy Grail of Watches

For years I’ve wanted a hefty menswear style watch, preferably something gold, Wall Street looking and way out of my budget. But since no deceased great uncle willed me his, nor did I find an affordable option that looked high quality, my wrist remained bare. (Okay, arm partied with bracelets, but still watchless.)

And then there was the other little thing stopping me: the Hermes Cape Cod watch. With its small stature and ladylike wrap band, it challenged my masculine watch ideal. I couldn’t reconcile my competing tastes.

Until the day when I can afford a vintage Rolex AND a Cape Cod, there’s this: Michael by Michael Kors' gold-plated chronograph watch. A hybrid of sorts (chunky and masculine, but with the elegance of a leather wrap band), it was a no-brainer purchase.

Since I bought it a couple weeks ago, people won't stop asking me if it's a way-too-nice 23rd birthday present, or maybe a family heirloom I just inherited. It's neither of those things–instead, it's $225 and available here.
