Marcia Patmos and Manolo Blahnik Make Tilapia Skin Shoes

Marcia Patmos and Manolo Blahnik have teamed up to give Carrie Bradshaw's shoe of choice an eco-friendly makeover. The collaboration includes two silhouettes (an open-toe flat and high-heeled sandal) made from discarded tilapia skins, cork and raffia. Both will are priced at $895 and will be available for spring 2012.
“I am always researching sustainable materials and developments. I love the idea of tilapia skin because it is a by-product of the food industry that would otherwise be discarded, but it’s actually a beautiful material perfect for small leather goods,” sustainable designer Patmos told WWD. “I love bringing the idea of sustainability into the luxury market—it doesn’t have to be limited to T-shirts and grocery bags.”
If the whole fish skin idea throws you off at first, check out this product image: it's so pretty! We think the Sex and the City ladies would approve, do you?
