Audrey Hepburn's Oscar Winning Dress Goes Up For Auction This Month
A lot of Hollywood memorabilia has gone under the hammer lately: Dorothy's ruby slippers, Marilyn Monroe's wedding ring and now, Audrey Hepburn's 1954 Oscar gown.
The one-of-a-kind dress was created by Edith Head and based on a costume from Roman Holiday, for which Hepburn won Best Actress. It's been appraised between £40,000 - £60,000 ($64,000-$96,000) and goes on the block November 29 at Kerry Taylor Auctions (you might remember them as the company that sold Kate Middleton's infamous see-through fashion show dress for £65,000).
The pretty piece is trademark Audrey: boatneck, full skirt, ladylike lace with a waist-cinching belt. Don't fret if you can't afford to bid (what, you didn't win the lottery this year?), the actress' timeless style has been replicated for decades. Try digging around on eBay or Etsy for similar vintage items or get this look-alike by Fancy on Shopbop.com. At $1,914, it's still an investment, but totally more reasonable than over a million dollars.
Would you buy on Audrey Hepburn's outfit if you had the extra cash?
