Victoria Beckham's Biggest Customer is Herself
Victoria Beckham is having something of a moment, or at least another moment, if you count her brief Spice Girls stint or much publicized move to the United States. The pop-star turned designer stopped by WWD's Apparel and Retail CEO Summit (other attendees included Norma Kamali and Tory Burch) Monday night to discuss her her recent fashion success and why she isn't a "celebrity brand."
"I was very aware of people's preconceptions," she told WWD executive editor Bridget Foley. "But I never went into the fashion industry trying to prove myself to anybody other than myself." She then goes on to explain that everything she creates is for her best client—herself.
"Everything that I make, from glasses to a handbag to a dress, is something I would wear and carry myself," Beckham said. "People ask who my customer is—I love to do in-store events with my retail partners, I love to meet my customers and get feedback—but I’m my customer.”
