Would You Shop the Kid's Section for Yourself?

Since retailers have begun to turn out increasingly cool clothes for the under-12 set (hello, Stella McCartney Kids!), trendsetters have started shopping the children's section for themselves.

Tastemaker and interior designer Athena Calderone insists she found her favorite shrunken denim jacket at Gap Kids. "If people compliment you on the look,” she told the New York Times, “it implies you’re slim and cool and crafty."

Calderone isn't the only stylish fan of grade-school apparel; Carla Bruni-Sarkozy and Kristin Chenoweth have also embraced the trend. And who can forget that memorable photo of Mary Kate Steinmiller in a perfectly fitted J.Crew Crewcuts sweater?

Since boys' and girls' sizes usually go up to 18, there is actually quite a bit of selection, especially if you look online. Do a little digging and you can sometimes find an exact replica of an adult piece you've been coveting--for much less. Our advice? Try and stick to sweaters, jackets, coats and accessories. Unless you are super-duper petite, the shorter pants proportions probably won't work.

What do you think about adults wearing children's clothes? Have you gone shopping in the kid's section before? If so, what did you buy? Tell us in the comments below!
