The Year of Prabal: A Photo Retrospective

From taking home the Swarovski Award for Womenswear at the 2011 CFDAs to earning ubiquitous rave reviews for his beautifully kaleidoscopic Spring 2012 collection, young designer Prabal Gurung has had quite the whirlwind year. And the celebrity set was quick to take notice of Gurung's remarkable talent from the start, supporting the Singapore-born designer by wearing his creations at dozens of high-profile galas, premieres and awards ceremonies.

As the end of December looms large, join us as we reflect on the past 12 months' worth of incredible Prabal dresses, as worn by some of Hollywood's most stylish stars. Whether you prefer Rose Byrne's pink column, Amanda Seyfried's purple print or any of SJP's four noteworthy Prabal looks, all are showstoppers in their own right.

Beautiful blonde Amanda Seyfried wore this violet floral style from Prabal's Spring 2012 collection to the L.A. premiere of her film, In Time.

Sure, it's next to impossible for Alessandra Ambrosio to look anything less than perfect. But in this scarlet gown from Fall 2011 at June's CFDA Awards, she's positively radiant.

Never a fashion wallflower, Sarah Jessica Parker slipped into a purple lamé look from Prabal's spring collection for the Melbourne premiere of I Don't Know How She Does It.

Lovely young actress Jennifer Lawrence attended the AFI Awards back in January wearing this snowy scuba sheath from Prabal's Spring 2011 line. We love how the snug fit and graphic turquoise streaks show off her curves.

Demonstrating the everlasting appeal of lace, SJP wore a black-and-white dress printed with the romantic fabric at the Moscow photocall of I Don't Know How She Does It.

Demi Moore hit the red carpet at the Met Gala in May wearing this ostrich feather-embellished black gown. Pairing it with a dramatic Philip Treacy fascinator, Moore takes the concept of black tie dressing to a whole new level.

The young'uns love Gurung as well. When rising star Hailee Steinfeld wore this gorgeous ivory Prabal gown to the Golden Globes, she instantly caught the style industry's eye.

At November's 45th Annual Country Music Awards, actress Ginnifer Goodwin selected a multi-tiered Prabal dress with floral appliqués.

SJP favors Prabal for less formal occasions, too. For a September appearance on the Late Show With David Letterman, she picked this two-tone duo of separates from Fall 2011.

At the CFDA / Vogue Fashion Fund Awards in November, Amanda Seyfried looked gorgeous and glowing in this drop-waist ivory dress. So Gatsby-esque and glamorous.

There's nothing like a runway legend to cement one's status as a major-league designer. Check out Iman in this Spring 2011 neon ensemble at the Gordon Parks Foundation awards dinner back in June.

At the Q Award in London in October, buzzed-about songstress Lana Del Rey wore a floral resort look to accept her "Next Big Thing" honors.

In what we consider one of the year's best examples of minimalist dressing, Rose Byrne wore this draped-back Prabal pencil dress to the L.A. premiere of her comedy Bridemaids. We love how the leather waistband and staps perfectly offset Rose's super-sharp brunette bangs.

At the Vanity Fair Oscar Party last spring, Zoe Saldana hit all the right notes in this red and ruffled number from Prabal's Fall 2011 collection. Saldana's been a fan of Gurung's since he first hit the fashion scene.

Well, at least there's no question that Parker really does love her Prabal. Here she is again wearing the designer for a London photocall; this time around, she chose a beautiful floral piece from the Resort 2012 collection.

We may have already featured Shailene Woodley as a Lucky Star, but we honestly can't get enough of this textured black-and-white ensemble she wore to a recent Hollywood Reporter breakfast.

At last week's premiere of her film, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Rooney Mara looked svelte and stunning in a black Spring 2012 look with sheer inserts.
