Newly Married Isaac Mizahi is Thinking About Babies

Fairchild Archive

As Isaac Mizrahi settles into marital bliss with his new husband, he's thinking about babies. Well, at least, baby clothes. In addition to his multiple women's lines, the designer is creating a collection of infant wear.

This may be a first in the scope of his 30 year career, but the industry veteran has a special connection to children's wear. His father oversaw Rydal Manufacturing, which made boy's apparel, for over three decades. And next door to the company's showroom resided Ellie Fishman, known for his work in children's wear. In time, she became a mentor to Mizrahi and a source of inspiration.

"Ellie and my father taught me that you can have all the best ideas but without the right execution they are not going to work," the designer told WWD. "That’s why I am so excited about this partnership. We are all on the same page. We didn’t have to sit in a room for hours. We knew exactly the niche we were going after."

The 25 piece range will have a "black and white group that is meant to be a funny take on sophisticated adult clothing" and will be available in selection department and specialty stores. Eventually, Isaac plans to expand, with offerings for older boys and girls. (Can't wait until then? Check out amazing shopping options on Lucky Kids.)

In addition to this new endeavor, the designer is making costumes and sets for the San Francisco Ballet. Plus, after hosting 2009's The Fashion Show, Mizahi has returned to television as a judge on Project Runways' All Star season. (You can catch him Thursday nights, at 9pm, on Lifetime.)
