Fashion Group International Finalists and Ecco Domani Winners Announced
The new year may have only just begun, but the fashion industry is wasting no time in crowning the latest crop of promising design talent. This morning, both the seven winners of the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Awards and the Fashion Group International's Rising Star Awards finalists were named.
Italian wine label Ecco Domani has been awarding grants to emerging designers for 11 years running, with Proenza Schouler, Rodarte, Altuzarra and Derek Lam among their many high-profile past winners. This year's lucky seven, selected from 200 applicants, will each be given $25,000 grants to help fund their Fall 2012 collections. The womenswear category recipients are Vera and Daphne Correll of Correll Correll, Alexa Galler of Eighteenth, Haus Alkire and Sunhee. Meanwhile, Tim Coppens was selected for his achievements in menswear design, Deszo by Sara Beltràn for accessories and Titania Inglis for her sustainable label.
The Fashion Group International's 15th annual Rising Star Awards ceremony will be held on January 26 in NYC. Finalists in the womenswear category include Wes Gordon, Nary Manivong and Alexandria Hilfiger of NAHM, Elene Cassis, Joel Diaz and Christina LaPens of Jolibe, Norman Ambrose, Nara Paz of Nara Paz Internationale, Misha Nonoo of Nonoo, Stacy Lomman and Steven McDermott of Stevie Mac New York. For menswear, it's between Simon Spurr, Rob Magness of Grown & Sewn, Ian Velardi and Luis M. Fernandez of Number: Lab. Over in the accessories arena, the finalists are Deborah Sawath of Thale Blanc, Ron Donovan, Katherine Kim of Roman & Sunstone, Michelle Vale, Blythe Harris of Stella & Dot, Serra Turker of Misela Inc., Adriana Castro and Michelle Watson of Mimi & Lu. And in the fine jewelry category, Jessica Kagan Cushman, Wendy Brandes and Torrubia & Torrubia will be competing.
