Breaking: Raf Simons is Leaving Jil Sander—Could Dior Be His Next Move?

Fairchild Archive

This morning, WWD confirmed that Jil Sander creative director Raf Simons will be leaving his role after the label's Fall 2012 show on Saturday. Simons joined the Jil Sander in July 2005, and has earned critical acclaim for his vibrant colorblocked shirtdresses, sporty silhouettes and photorealistic florals for the Milanese house.

The company has said they'll be announcing a new creative director in several days. The most probable candidate for the position, interestingly, is none other than Jil Sander herself. Rumor has it that Sander, who founded the house back in 1968, wants to take the reins at the label she built.

What we're even more curious to know, however, is where Simons will go from here. His name was thrown into the ring early on as a possible successor to John Galliano at Dior—and with his knowledge of midcentury couture, he's always been one of our personal favorite contenders for the job. Of course, just last September he was also rumored to be taking over for Stefano Pilati at Yves Saint Laurent. No matter where he ends up, we're pretty sure Simons is close to landing an exciting—and very prestigious—gig. Watch this space for more updates. And in the meantime, where would you like to see Simons go next?
