Jen Kao Fall 2012: Holy Kao

The Scene: The show at Highline Studios was running a few minutes behind, so Becka Diamond, John Jannuzzi, The Glamourai, Phil Oh, Reece Solomon and I took a quick trip to the shoe department at Jeffrey. (Neon is having a moment over there, in case you haven't been yet). When we finally arrived, the runway was freshly painted with a cool geometric print, the front row was filled with it-girls and the room was way dark.
The Look: You can call Jen Kao the mixmaster. She took all of those really cool Lower East Side trends and put them to into a collection that worked. Rock, boho, workwear-inspired, knits, silks, embellishments—it was all represented here. Her inspriation was obviously sitting in the front row; there's bound to be quite a few New York girls running around in these looks faster than we can say fall delivery.
The Pieces We Want: Melissa Lum, Rebecca Ramsey and I agreed that the look that stole the show was the embellished jacket with the brocade pant. We're seeing a ton of brocade this season and we like it! Also add to the list—baseball hats. I couldn't be happier about that one.
