Kate Middleton is Judging a Shoe Design Contest

Add this to the host of reasons why I’d be happy to switch lives with Kate Middleton for a bit: the Duchesss is judging a shoe design contest.

With its Project Runway-esque notions, that sounds innately, inherently fun. And since the grand prize is the promise of Kate wearing the best design, Ms. Middleton also gets to keep the winning shoe. So it's sort of a win for her, too.

Now that the pool of 100 De Montfort University applicants has been whittled down to six, Kate will choose one and announce the winner on March 8. See the sketches here for a glimpse of the fanciful designs. With tartan fabrics, rosette details and toweringly high stilettos, they're a far cry from the simple LK Bennett heels Kate favors. But like those shoes—and her blue Issa dress, and her white Reiss one, and basically everything Kate ever wears—they're sure to sell out just as quickly, if and when they actually go on sale. (Which means switching lives with the Duchess might actually be the only way to nab a pair of the winning shoes after all.)
