Nicholas K Fall 2012: Cowgirls That Are Anything But Country
The Scene: Since Nicholas K had the good fortune of landing an early show at the beginning of Fashion Week, everyone seemed awake, alert and full of anticipation. Much like the designers themselves, the crowd wore lots of black leather and fur accessories, making it difficult to pick people out in the dimly lit room. We did, however, spot PR giant Kelly Cutrone bouncing between guests, kissing cheeks and warmly showing Joe Zee to his seat.
The Look: Urban cowgirl meets desert warrior. Layers upon layers of armor-like calfskin and asymmetrical knits covered models with blunt-bobbed haircuts. Crocheted and fringe details were a repeating theme, paired with sheer tanks and cropped cargos. Most ensembles were topped with a grey western-inspired hat and long Jewelry by Matt tortoiseshell pendents (as in, like, an actual tortoise's shell—whaaat?!), and all the shoes had severe platform wedges. The Kunz siblings mainly stuck to their signature neutral palette, although a few outfits mixed in muted orange and deep turquoise.
Pieces We Want: If Indiana Jones (or just Harrison Ford) enlisted us tomorrow for a secret mission around the globe, we'd be all over those useful utility-belts-turned-vests. But our actual Friday schedule includes three fashion shows and a dance party, so we're craving the body-conscious bomber jackets.
