Rachel Zoe Fall 2012: Well-Suited

The Scene: Not wanting to follow the crowd, Rachel Zoe decided to forgo Lincoln Center and chose the Empire Hotel (known in Gossip Girl world as Chuck Bass' hotel) across the street from the tents for her Fall 2012 runway show. It was another mini-The City reunion with Olivia Palermo and her former "boss" Joe Zee in the front row (not next to each other). Rach's ever-supportive hubby Rodger was standing in the back row and we noticed him carefully and approvingly scrutinizing each look. And when Zoe came out for her final wave, he was smiling and clapping proudly. Aww.
The Look: True to Zoe's aesthetic, her upcoming collection definitely has a '70s-era vintage vibe to it. And yes, there were lots signature Zoe shaggy fur jackets, bell bottoms (in leather this time) and a very Rachel-esque rose gold column gown with a plunging low back. She also introduced her take on the power suit—think sexy body-con silhouettes, skinny trousers and nipped-in waists. There were experiments with textures: brocade cropped pants, a champagne pinstriped velvet shorts suit and natty tweed separates. And she also played with layering by casually throwing nubby, slouchy cardigans and furry coats over the tailored suiting. Oh, and her handbags "accessZOErized" the looks, with highlights including a rich merlot suede-and-leather saddle bag, plus a (likely Birkin-inspired) colorblocked satchel.
Pieces We Want: The olive green double-breasted and belted poncho is what I want for my next fall jacket. And as a bonus, there was one look that every girl could take home for free: the middle-parted beachy hair accented with a messy side braid. Gorge.
