The CFDA Team Shares Their Favorite Collections From NYFW

Out of everyone in the fashion industry, it's the gatekeepers of the Council of Fashion Designers of America who need to be the most well-versed in what's fresh and new each season. After all, their team fosters up-and-coming designers by providing them with showroom spaces, not to mention mentorships and grants.

The famous trade association has helped nurture some of today's most in-demand labels (Proenza Schouler or Prabal Gurung, anyone?), so we could think of no better group to weigh in on the Fall 2012 New York collections. Read on to see which shows were their favorites. Do you agree with their picks?

Michael Kors

"As a former performer, I just love the production of Michael's shows. Great music, interesting runway patterns, and models who can really walk paired with his amazing yet relatable clothes. I leave his shows excited about this industry and about what I'll be wearing next season. When those sparkly evening dresses came out, the whole front row pulled out their iPhones to snap pics." - Christine Olsen, Manager: Social Media, Special Events and Public Relations

Altuzarra

"I had the pleasure of getting to work with Joseph this year for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, and I think his Fall 2012 show beautifully showcased why he was picked as the 2011 winner. There was a masterful balance of luxury (plenty of fur), flamboyance (embellished Moroccan skirts) and street chic (lust-worthy peacoats). That's the Holy Trinity of effortless dressing." - Sacha Brown, Educational Initiatives Associate

Public School

"This collection was the epitome of New York cool. The brand is a true testament to design entrepreneurship and what is possible in NYC. I'm obsessed with the denim jacket with leather sleeves—I'd wear everything in an 'I stole it from my boyfriend' way." - Johanna Stout, Manager: Fashion Incubator
