Tips and Treats at Our LSC Blogger Breakfast
On Monday, a slew of Lucky staffers—from Editor-in-Chief Brandon Holley to Executive Fashion Director Alexis Bryan Morgan to the web team—convened in Condé Nast HQ's chic BA Kitchen for a special Fashion Week breakfast with our Style Collective bloggers. While enjoying a delicious spread catered by Momofuku (if you've never tried their bagel bombs, you're for real missing out), we got a chance to catch up with our extended team and answer some of their most pressing industry questions.
Topics during the editor Q&A ranged from the importance of working only with brands that truly reflect a blogger's aesthetic to networking with other writers and photographers in one's hometown. Many of our guests were concerned about finding other local bloggers to work with, prompting a discussion on the merit of region-specific "blogger networks" that could help style and beauty writers trade ideas with one another.
Both Brandon and our own Style Collective Editor John Jannuzzi also stressed the importance of keeping one's voice authentic, rather than allowing product freebies and endorsement opportunities to compromise a blogger's tone. By watering down one's voice with odd-fitting product placements, John reasoned, readers could feel alienated.
Finally, LinkedIn's Senior Manager of Corporate Communications, Krista Canfield, gave everyone some tips on how to connect in the online world. The presentation featured some of the ways LinkedIn helps professionals search for one another based on their job strengths and interests, and offered ideas on how we could streamline our digital profiles.
The breakfast was a great—and very informative—way to kick of the week of shows, and we can't wait to host our LSC friends at our next big event.
