Pop music legend and actress Whitney Houston passed away earlier tonight at the far-too-young age of 48. The news came as a tragic shock in the midst of Fashion Week festivities, and is even more saddening considering that tomorrow marks the 54th Annual Grammy Awards—a ceremony that Whitney once ruled.

During the '80s and '90s, Whitney Houston was one of the world's most powerful and best-selling recording artists, and struck pop music gold with hits like "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," "I Will Always Love You," "How Will I Know" and "The Greatest Love of All." She also appeared in movies like The Bodyguard and Waiting to Exhale and The Preacher's Wife. But despite multiplatinum albums, model good looks and almost supernatural vocal range, Whitney also dealt with drug addiction and a rocky relationship with husband Bobby Brown.
