Anna Sui Fall 2012: Critter Caps and Miles of Smiles
The Scene: Season after season, the mood at Anna Sui is always refreshingly upbeat, thanks to both the designer's joyful use of print and color and her models' ever-present smiles. Fashion, after all, is meant to be fun—a fact nobody recognizes better than Anna. We loved that front-rowers (and Citizens Band BFFs) Karen Elson and Sarah Sophie Flicker both brought their equally beautiful little daughters to the show, whom they held on their laps throughout.
The Soundtrack: Girly pop, like "Most Wanted" and "Go Outside" by Cults and "Release Me" by The Like.
The Look: Fairytale-folkloric, with tons of color. Peter Pan-collared dresses and tops were worn with round librarian-style glasses, while a section of Valentine's Day-ready red and pink ensembles were accented with Pepto-pink opaque tights. The designer's outerwear was strong, and included everything from a denim-blue shearling coat to some neat capes in both velvet and plaid. During the show, Anna also debuted her new handbag capsule for Coach: two updated takes on the brand's classic Duffle Sac embossed with either a fleur-de-lis or an oversized dragonfly and trimmed with tassels and whip-stitching. And speaking of accessories, the googly-eyed knit owl hats by James Coviello were freakishly adorable—and pretty much stole the show on their own.
Pieces We Want: A grey-and-blue duffle coat worn by Hanne Gaby Odiele might just be our big outerwear purchase for next fall, and the tiny tulip skirts in blown-up plaid would fit seamlessly into our workday wardrobe. We also loved the matching circle-patterned dress-and-coat combo in shimmering cerulean.
