Lucky Listens: M.I.A.
It's been over a year since we last heard from rapper M.I.A. (née Maya Arulpragasam), and her brand-new track "Bad Girls" is the hottest thing we've heard since, well, her 2007 smash hit "Paper Planes." The first single from her untitled upcoming album, it's got a snappy Punjabi-style beat and plenty of percussion that make it infinitely listenable.
in the accompanying video, which was just released today, M.I.A. performs gravity-defying car stunts, shimmies about in a sequined silver jumpsuit and wears some of the coolest glitter eye makeup we've ever seen. In addition to being a bestselling recording artist, after all, this London-born lady's a one-of-a-kind stylesetter.
Luckily, getting the outspoken (and sometimes controversial) singer's look is easy. Take a prints-on-prints-on-prints ensemble, add some oversized gold jewelry, and mix in as many Skittles colors as possible. To get you started, check out some of our M.I.A.-inspired picks in the slideshow...and then get on with yo' bad girl self.
We're guessing that roughly half of M.I.A.'s wardrobe is tropical-printed.
Nobody does boldly-patterned shades like Thierry Lasry.
If you want to dress like M.I.A., you're gonna need a romper (or three).
Let these be the grand statement of your outfit by pairing them with a basic, softly-draped tee.
This loud and proud cap laughs in the face of your everyday team-logo toppers.
These patterned shorts have us looking forward to the fast-approaching warmer months.
M.I.A.'s all about her doorknocker hoops.
The British rapper's a longtime House of Holland fan, and she's definitely one for funny wordplay. Frankly, we'd be shocked if she didn't own this tee.
