Peter Som Fall 2012: Precise, Polished and Finished With a Peplum
The Scene: Elegant, polished young things love Peter Som—and it's not hard to see why. The designer drew inspiration this season from both Katharine Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich, two Old Hollywood beauties who knew all about the art of feminine—but never too fussy—dressing.
The Look: No screaming neons here, baby. Som used a classic winter palette of ivory, wine and forest green. His first section of looks were head-to-toe white, but textural touches (here a sheer organza pencil skirt, there a furry cocoon coat) kept those monochromatic ensembles interesting. Nearly every outfit had an added peplum, from satin sheaths to skinny pants. And fur made an appearance, covering tie-waist zippered jackets and supersized patchwork coats.
Pieces We Want: Granted, we've never met a peplum we didn't like…but Som's takes on the trend were downright dazzling. We especially loved the asymmetrical chiffon gowns trimmed with feathered, ruffled ones that hit at the hip. The moody, autumnal-toned floral separates were winners as well.
