A Few Weather-Appropriate Wardrobe Suggestions for The Killing's Det. Sarah Linden
We know that The Killing’s Detective Sarah Linden, played by Mireille Enos, is pretty distracted. With a squirrelly and possibly-backstabbing partner, rebellious teenage son, failed romance and that frustratingly unresolved “who killed Rosie Larsen” business, she doesn’t have much time to think about her clothes.
And honestly, there probably isn’t much room in Reggie’s houseboat—or that no-star motel—to store what’s left of Linden’s belongings (you know, what wasn’t packed and shipped down to Rick’s house in Sonoma). But we feel like the long suffering detective could do so much better sartorially.
Of course, Linden is a hard-working police detective who needs to fend off knife wielding attackers and chase after the wrong suspects at a moment’s notice (and if we believe the show, it apparently rains every freakin’ day in Seattle), but that doesn’t mean her wardrobe must only consist of itchy-looking non-ironic Fair Isle sweaters, ill-fitting stone-washed jeans and shapeless parkas.
We have a feeling that the detective is pretty set in her ways, so we’re not going too revolutionary, like switching out her trusty bootcuts for red skinny jeans or something. But before the two-hour April 1 season premiere of The Killing on AMC, we’d like to suggest a few wardrobe upgrades that work with Linden’s lifestyle and profession–and flatter her natural beauty. Next up: getting Holder out of the crusty hoodie that he wears every day.

Linden seems to be most comfortable in a relaxed silhouette, so this slouchy, marled grey sweatshirt knit should be an easy transition.
We know it'll be hard for Linden to give up the Fair Isle, so let's try this more flattering and fashion-forward look with a boxy and ever-so-slightly cropped cut.
Both fashionable and functional, this rugged parka with a defined waist—ahem—has a hood and rain-shield to protect Linden from the Seattle downpours. Plus, there are lots of pockets to hold her non-smartphone cell phone and nicotine gum packets.
We realize that the price might be a stretch on a police detective's salary–and we're assuming that the Seattle PD is a bit strapped, too, considering their near non-existent technology budget–but we can always hope!
Linden's not really the hipster skinny jeans wearing type, so these bootcuts should be well within her comfort zone. The cut is a more flattering, leaner fit and the darker wash more, well, current. But Linden, we beg you, please take these to a tailor so the hems aren't dragging on the rain and mud-drenched Seattle streets!
We don't often see Linden's footwear because they're often obscured by her too-long bootcuts, but we think we saw some cowboy boot-esque tips peeking out once. These cowboy-style ankle boots are a slick update and the heel is low enough to allow for necessary running chases. And if god forbid, Linden decides to give skinny jeans a spin, she won't have to buy new shoes to match!
