a tribute-worthy beauty look, inspired by hunger games star jacqueline emerson

Jacqueline Emerson plays the stealthy scavenger Fox Face in the Hunger Games, which hits theaters Friday. Much like her character, who was gussied up to face the nation of Panem on live television the night before the start of the game, Emerson was more than camera-ready when she appeared on the red carpet at the world premiere of the film last week. We asked the actress about how she got ready for her big moment. Turns out she started prepping six weeks before the premiere, teaming up with her stylist Sophia Banks to find the right dress.

"I knew I wanted a floor length dress in green or blue to go with my eyes and hair. I didn't have a particular designer in mind, but I love classic looks," Emerson explains. After trying on 15 different options, Emerson poured herself into a green Reem Acra floor-length gown. "As soon as I turned around in it, we all knew it was 'the one,'" she says. "The dress had everything I was looking for. The silk fabric played with the light and I also loved the way it wrapped around my bodice. It’s very flattering," adds Emerson, who finished off her gown with a Van Cleef and Arpel jeweled pendant necklace, a Bvlgari clutch ("it's like a piece of jewelry!" she says), and gold strappy Giuseppe Zanotti heels.

For hair and makeup styling, Emerson went to The Salon by Maxime in Beverly Hills. Inspired by glamorous old Hollywood stars, Emerson wore her red long tresses lush, wavy and down, with help from a curling iron and products like The Booster, which provided extra body and texture. She also went for smoky eyes. "I had never done that look before, so we decided to try it to highlight my eyes, and I really loved it," she says. The whole process took about four hours—(a stark contrast to her usual everyday routine: putting on "a school uniform and sweat pants," laughs the 17-year-old)—but the end result was picture-perfect stunning.

Emerson is attending the midnight opening of The Hunger Games this evening, and yes, she's dressing up again, but this time with her sisters and friends. "We initially bought 20 tickets for my family and friends, but more and more people added on, so we ended up being about 30.” We'll be on line to see it too, wearing our weekend-casual finest.
