SXSW: Grimes, A Religious Experience
The Pitchfork showcase last night was held in a church in downtown Austin. And not a cleared out one, so we all sat and watched performances by Fiona Apple, Grimes and Purity Ring from the pews. I kind of felt like a bad Jew and that the whole thing was somehow sacrilegious, but Grimes' rather awesome performance brought the church down.
Watching Claire Boucher of Grimes is one of the best experiences I've had in a long time. Her "dream pop" sound is cool, intense and slightly dark. There's nothing that seems conventional or boring about her personality, her look or her sound. She's totally the talk of SXSW and I'm speaking with her soon. Stay tuned for a full interview.
