The Modern Evolution of the Long-Sleeved Wedding Dress
This Sunday, April 29, exactly one year will have passed since Kate Middleton wed Prince William and officially became the Duchess of Cambridge. And while she's worn tons of amazing outfits since the Royal Wedding (Reiss! Jenny Packham! Erdem!), all of which you can check out in our comprehensive slideshow, it's Kate's stunning long-sleeved Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen wedding gown that will go down in history as her most memorable look.
But while some might peg the long-sleeved wedding dress trend to our favorite Duchess, the regal brunette wasn't actually the first high-profile, modern bride to pick a gown with a little extra coverage.
In fact, we first took notice of this more conservative look back in 2009, when Ivanka Trump selected a dress featuring demure half-sleeves. From there, the craze snowballed, building steam throughout the whole of 2011.
Click through the slideshow to see some of our favorite recent celeb wedding dresses that include sleeves—and to shop for one of your own. For good measure, we've even included a bridal jacket that allows you to transform any strapless or sleeveless number into a Duchess Kate-worthy wedding outfit.
October 2006: Donald's businesswoman/socialite/designer daughter was perhaps the first celeb to try a wedding dress with sleeves. She wore this custom-made Vera Wang to tie the knot with Jared Kushner.
