Francisco Costa Is Creating a Capsule Line of Dresses For Macy's to Celebrate its "Magical Journey to Brazil"
Macy's began preparing for its "Magical Journey to Brazil" promotion last week by modeling the Herald Square location's annual flower show after a South American rainforest. So it's fitting that the retailer's next move is a capsule line with one of the country's most talented designers: Francisco Costa.
The current women's creative director of Calvin Klein will be creating a line of affordable dresses for the company under a "Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein" label. The pieces—which debut on May 15—will be more affordable than his usual high-end fare, ranging from $135 to $180 each.
"This fresh, youthful line of dresses reflects both my roots and the modern, yet timeless spirit of Calvin Klein," Costa (who originally hails from Guarani, Brazil) recently told WWD.
Also available during the store's Brazilian-themed month will be exclusive men's and women's collections designed by Kevin Carrigan, the global creative director for ck Calvin Klein, Calvin Klein and Calvin Klein Jeans. Pieces will include brightly printed apparel, accessories and underwear. Some stores will also carry limited-editon pieces from more brands, but Macy's has not yet disclosed the names of other participants.
The purpose of this upcoming program is not only to bring attention to South America's burgeoning fashion status (which has been growing since Opening Ceremony chose Argentina as its country of focus last fall) but to raise money for the Amazon rainforest. So, while we fully endorse a good old-fashioned regular collaboration—like Marni for H&M or Missoni for Target—this one is extra special because it supports such a great cause. Over 800 Macy's locations will carry the special merchandise, so visit Macys.com to find a store near you.
