Manolo Blahnik x J.Crew Collab Canceled
Blame it on the fashion industry's cyclical nature: for every bit of exciting footwear-related news that hits our Google Reader, there's usually an equal disappointing headline to be had. Today, that comes in the form of Fashionista's confirmation that the much-anticipated Manolo Blahnik for J.Crew collaboration was nipped in the bud before production on the pairs even began.
You might remember that everyone in our office (not to mention the fashion world at large) swooned over the pointy patterned pumps Blahnik provided for J.Crew's Fall 2012 presentation back in February. And even after the shoe designer publicly confessed he didn't know anything about an official team-up between the two brands, we all assumed the heels would soon land in J.Crew stores. But according to a Manolo spokesperson, "wholesale production restraints" made it impossible to create the collaborational footwear after all.
"We were looking forward to the potential collaboration between our two brands, we both came to the conclusion that fall wasn't the right time," said George Malkemus, Manolo Blahnik's president. And J.Crew's team echoed the sentiment in their separate statement, too: "We have a mutual admiration for each other and while we couldn't do this for fall, we hope to collaborate in the future."
Until then, we suppose J.Crew's house-labeled Mona and Valentina pumps will have to do.
