Picture This: 5 Fashion Brands Worth Following on Instagram
The following is a guest post from our friends at The Budget Fashionista.
They say (and by “they,” we’re not sure who–maybe the gods of cliché?) a picture is worth a thousand words. Yeah, maybe back in 1999. In today’s world of tweeting/pinning/friending/poking/checking in/etc., it’s actually worth a billion. Unless you’re socially comatose, you’ve probably read ad nauseum about the insane price tag Facebook paid to acquire Instagram.
Look, we’re not going to debate whether the value will justify the price, but we will admit that Instagram may be the hottest social network of the moment. (Well, maybe after Pinterest.) Not only is Instagram a great way to subtly brag about the flowers your new beau sent to your office, but it’s a great way to catch up on your daily dose of fashion porn. Here are five must-follow fashion brands on Instagram.
Brands Worth Your Follow on Instagram:
Ah, the iconic Burberry trenchcoat! Untouchable price-wise, and up there on our “If we win the lottery…” dream list. We love seeing the classic trench scattered throughout Burberry’s Instagram, whether it’s Audrey Hepburn gracing the coat and soaked in the rain in Breakfast at Tiffany’s or in a 1978 ad campaign (bottom left). Plus, we love seeing the stunning shots of a dreary, almost melancholic London.
ModCloth is a social juggernaut, and the brand is at the forefront of social marketing. Known for their vintage-inspired clothes with sometimes-cheesy/sometimes-terrible names (the “You Aqua Know” dress? Really, ModCloth?), the brand’s Instagram showcases behind-the-scenes photo shoots, quirky style-related photos (French fry nails, anyone?) and a cool office culture. Can we bring our dogs to work too? Pretty please?
Erika Bearman may possibly have the coolest job in the world. As Oscar de la Renta’s PR gal, she’s in the fashion trenches, giving us mere mortals an inside look into her glamorous world. We love her Instagram because not only does she answer questions we’re DYING to know (i.e., what is Erika Bearman wearing today?), but she also posts flashbacks of the past. Like Oscar in Japan in the 1980s in a Hefner-esque robe (top right) to pictures of vintage Tyra rocking a 1991 show in Paris.
Back in the day, Target was the store you frequented to buy your monthly supply of feminine goodies and random household products like bleach. Now? It’s pretty much a one-stop superstore for everything, including your fashion wants and needs, which is why TargetStyle is its own separate Instagram account. The budget retailer’s Instagram is a fusion of street style, various contests with serious cash prizes, and behind-the-scenes looks at celebrity designer collaborations. Now, who can come up with a cuter design for their nails than the one above?
Since we can’t always (or ever) afford the hefty price point of Marc Jacobs, we love living vicariously through its delightful Instagram. Models goofing off backstage, runway shows, New York, and grass-covered cars that say “Daisy Marc Jacobs.“ Yup, typical Marc Jacobs…
